Essentials of Human Resources Certificate Program 2026
Three In-Person Sessions
February 12th, 19, & 26th, 2026; 9am - 4pm
The Essentials of Human Resources Management Certificate Program provides the knowledge and practical skills for human resources administration and management. Rapidly changing workplace initiatives, legal landscapes and workplace culture are an integral part of the human resources function. Whether you are a full-time HR professional or someone who has a combined responsibility for human resources, the responsibilities are the same. This 2-session certificate program will focus on real-life situations that are found in organization's today.

Module 1: Legal Aspects of Human Resources
This session addresses laws and regulations governing the workplace, development of effective policies and procedures that will help you develop an Employee Handbook.
- Overview of California employment laws
- Human resources record management
- Important considerations when developing an Employee handbooks
- Legal aspects of interviewing
- How to recruit qualified candidates
- Developing effective interview questions
- Evaluating candidates and making an offer
This session provides an overview of evaluating current compensation practices, classifying employees and legal concerns, as well as understanding and managing leaves of absence (FMLA/CFRA, PDL, ADA).
Topics will include:
- Defining exempt and nonexempt
- Wage and hour pitfalls
- Understanding leaves of absence and administration
- Request for accommodations
- Current workforce practices (work from home/ hybrid)
Module 4: Performance Management
- Creating a performance management system
- Defining the 3 types of performers in the workplace
- How to effectively document performance
- How to celebrate success for any budget
- Handling complaints
- Documentation for termination
BONUS MODULE 5: Harassment Prevention February 26th; 1pm - 3pm
*TNP's Essentials of Human Resources Certificate includes attendance to the Harassment Prevention workshop which will be held In-Person on February 26th.
California businesses with 5 or more employees MUST provide harassment prevention training every 2 years (SB1343). Employees and newly promoted/hired supervisors must be trained within 6 months of hire or promotion date. Temporary employees must be trained within 30 calendar days after the hire date or within 100 hours worked, whichever occurs first. Attend TNP's Harassment Prevention training to fulfill your legal requirement.
- Understanding the definition and laws regarding unlawful harassment, discrimination and retaliation

- Understanding the importance of harassment prevention policy, complaint and investigation procedure

Anne Laguzza is the President of The Works Consulting. As a seasoned business executive with human resources management, leadership development, and performance coaching experience, Anne works with clients from a variety of industries to develop better systems, maximize employee productivity, and enable management to focus on business growth.
Prior to founding The Works Consulting in 2001, Anne served as the Regional Human Resources Director for a Fortune 500 distribution company where she led a merger transition team and was responsible for strategic planning, implementing new policies and procedures, workforce restructuring, compensation structures, and integrating the work cultures for over 600 employees. Cancellation policy: We require notice of cancellation at least 48 hours in advance of the class start time. No refunds will be provided for no-shows or late cancellations. All registrants are encouraged to send an alternate if unable to attend.
Attendance Policy: Participants must attend all sessions to receive the certificate of completion. Sessions missed for half an hour or more are considered absences. If an attendee misses a class, they can make up the missed session no more than six months later (or the next time the program is held) with a $25 administrative fee to receive the certificate.
LACDAC and First 5 (Region 4) grantees are eligible to receive 100% scholarship toward the program. All sessions must be attended. Those who register without attending will be invoiced directly for the full cost of the course.
Per our contract with LACDAC, we are required to notify LACDAC of any grantees who register and do not attend; Those who miss a session cannot register to attend any future TNP sessions until payment is received.
