Sanity and Humanity : Trauma-Informed Practices for Organizational Success

You’re a seasoned nonprofit leader or professional. You get that being trauma-informed is essential to providing direct services to vulnerable populations. But what do “trauma-informed practices” have to do with organizational success? What does trauma have to do with operations?
The inconvenient truth is that it’s not just agency constituents who are more traumatized than ever – nonprofit staff and leaders are carrying higher trauma loads too. Pandemics, heightened economic volatility, climate chaos, ICE raids, evaporating funding, and political attacks by the Far Right, are causing constant, high stress levels. These interfere not only with nonprofits’ ability to serve, but to walk the talk, make effective decisions, and fulfill your missions with integrity, creativity and strategic agility.

Participants in this engaging, interactive, three-hour session will walk away with:

1. A simple, practical understanding of what trauma is.
2. More clarity about the surprising ways trauma/chronic stress impacts humans.
3. Insights into specific ways trauma responses debilitate nonprofits in key operational areas.
4. Two concrete tools for settling their nervous systems in a minute or less.
5. A personalized action plan for next steps.

Understanding and integrating trauma-informed practices into daily operations supports a better working environment for all staff, greater mission alignment, and more effective results at all levels of the organization. Like DEI done right, trauma-informed practices aren’t an optional bonus, but critical to doing better business that benefits everyone.

Trainer: Susana Rinderle, MA, PCC

Susana is a writer, poet, transformational life & leadership coach, and trauma-informed resilience practitioner. Her first career was in DEI (diversity, equity & inclusion), antiracism, and leadership development, where she spent 30 years garnering results for employers and clients as an internal subject matter expert, trainer and training designer, organizational leader, and external consultant. She’s worked across the U.S. and internationally in multiple sectors including nonprofit, corporate, healthcare, education, and government.

Susana is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC), ICF Mentor Coach, and Certified Facilitator of The Resilience Toolkit (Level II). She has degrees from UCLA and the University of New Mexico and studied at UNAM in Mexico City. She held a university position in Guadalajara, Mexico, and was the co-founder and first Manager of DEI for University of New Mexico Hospitals. For twenty years, she was the President of Susana Rinderle Consulting, LLC, and is a former Principal Consultant for Korn Ferry. Susana is a TEDx speaker, and her articles appear in Workforce Magazine, The Huffington Post, TLNT.com, Diversity Executive, American Diversity Report, Training Magazine, Life Coach Magazine, and academic journals. She is a spoken word artist and former slam poet published in several poetry anthologies.

Cancellation policy: We require notice of cancellation at least 48 hours in advance of the event start time. No refunds will be provided for no-shows or late cancellations. All registrants are encouraged to send an alternate if unable to attend.

In Person Covid Protocols: TNP In-person workshops take place on the Long Beach City College campus. In accordance with the campus COVID policy, all attendees are required to be fully vaccinated and free of symptoms of COVID-19 or any other illness. All attendees are required to wear a mask. All attendees will be required to complete a form, upon arrival, attesting that they are in compliance with this policy

LACDAC grantees who register without attending will be invoiced directly for the full cost of the course. Per our contract with LACDAC, we are required to notify LACDAC of any grantees who register and do not attend; Those who miss a session cannot register to attend any future TNP sessions until payment is received.
